This 10-day mountaineering tour combines cultural immersion in western Mongolia with a non-technical ascent of Malchin Peak (4,050 m), known locally as Herder Peak.
Designed for physically active travelers rather than technical climbers, the ascent requires endurance and steady hiking, not ropes or specialized mountaineering skills. The journey is shaped by alpine trekking, glacier landscapes, and meaningful encounters with Kazakh and Tuvan communities.
Remote, physically rewarding, and culturally grounded, this experience offers western Mongolia at elevation.

Arrive in Mongolia for the adventure of a lifetime. This tour is meant for active hikers and climbers looking for a challenge on the roof of Mongolia.
This non-technical hike is challenging for its steep face and rocky terrain. But, the views from the top are worth the day’s climb it takes to get there!
Join us for this once-in-a-lifetime hiking adventure.
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, where airport transfer will be arranged. Settle into your hotel and meet your guide for a welcome dinner and introduction to the journey.
Transfer to the airport for an early morning domestic flight to Ölgii.
Upon arrival, meet your local western Mongolia team and prepare for the mountain journey ahead. Spend the day in Ölgii gathering any last minute supplies and rest up for the trip ahead.
Travel to a Kazakh eagle hunter family outside Ölgii. Spend time learning about golden eagle training and the cultural role of eagle hunting in Kazakh identity.
Drive toward Tsagaan Gol. Visit Tuvan (Uriankhai) families and learn about life in the mountain valley.
Camp is established in the valley. Tents are provided and shared.
Begin the 16 km trek toward Altai Tavan Bogd National Park Base Camp. Camels and horses transport gear while you hike through alpine terrain.
Begin early for the ascent of Malchin Peak. The climb is non-technical but physically demanding, requiring stamina and steady pacing.
The summit offers wide views across three countries and the glacier systems of the Altai range.
Return to Base Camp in the afternoon.
Descend from Base Camp and transfer toward Khoton and Khurgan Lakes. Visit Kazakh nomadic families and enjoy traditional tea and dairy tasting.
Visit Shiveet Khairkhan, known for ancient petroglyphs. Continue to Baga Dürgen Waterfall for a short hike before returning to Ölgii.
Check into your hotel and rest.
Fly back to Ulaanbaatar. Airport transfer to your hotel will be arranged.
