This 10-day mountaineering tour combines cultural immersion in western Mongolia with a non-technical ascent of Malchin Peak (4,050 m), known locally as Herder Peak.

Designed for physically active travelers rather than technical climbers, the ascent requires endurance and steady hiking, not ropes or specialized mountaineering skills. The journey is shaped by alpine trekking, glacier landscapes, and meaningful encounters with Kazakh and Tuvan communities.

Remote, physically rewarding, and culturally grounded, this experience offers western Mongolia at elevation.

Highlights of this 10-day Malchin Peak Mountaineering Tour include:

  • Summit Malchin Peak (4,050 meters), one of the main five peaks of the Tavan Bogd Mountain Range on the Mongolian-Russia-China border.
  • Non-technical high-altitude ascent and the only of the five Tavan Bogd peaks that can be climbed without specialized mountain climbing equipment.
  • Trek through the Altai Tavan Bogd mountain range known for its beauty and the nomads who call it home.
  • Breathtaking views of Mongolia, Russia, and China from the peak, as well as the Potanin Glacier, the longest glacier in Mongolia.
  • Stay with a Kazakh eagle hunter family.
  • Visit Tuvan (Uriankhai) communities in Tsagaan Gol.
  • Explore petroglyphs at Shiveet Khairkhan.
  • Camp beside glacier-fed lakes and alpine valleys.
